{Book Review} Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson

This was such a great novel.

Morgan Matson describes Emily’s crazy summer after her best friend Sloane leaves mysteriously, leaving behind a list of things to do. The list, of course, is full of CRAZY stuff from hugging a Jamie to skinny dipping. All the while Emily is completing the list she is hoping to find her best friend but instead finds something in herself that she didn’t even know was there.

I love all of Morgan Matson’s characters! Emily starts out as someone who is almost entirely dependent on her best friend to by the end of the summer becomes such a different person. Morgan Matson accentuates her growth by inserting scenes from Emily and Sloane’s past experiences and the present struggles during the book to get over her shyness. Each and every other supporting character is just as unique too. Whether if it’s for the whole book a character appears or just a minor scene, I feel true depth and relation to each of her characters.

Did I mention the cover?! People always say don’t judge a book by its cover.

Everybody judges books by their covers.

And this book has a beautiful cover. It’s very original which I love. It catches a reader’s attention because of the ice cream, (I mean I’m drooling already) and there is a summery feel to the cover. Girls chilling on the sidewalk on a summer day eating ice cream. Yum. And the custom text is neat because it pops out without distracting you from the main image.

I love this book from cover to end! While I read this book I found myself struggling through the same things that Emily was going through. And then cheering for her every time she crossed off something on her list. This book is a journey of self-discovery for characters and readers alike! READ THIS BOOK. ā¤
